Most good programmers need to think twice to understand expressions with side effects. Let them use their brain cells to understand the larger questions of how your code works rather than the syntactic details of a specific expression.

Could not agree more, considering that probably 80% of what we do is .. habits. Some are behaviors, and others are thinking habits (these are the hardest to change! : )

That is why it's considered as a good... mmm... habbit to learn some new programming language (or to play new musical instrument) every year. To wake your brain up by a kind of thinking paradigm shift.
